South Austin Personal Trainer Near You
After working as a personal trainer for over a decade, our founder Brian Murray opened Motive Training in 2019.
Today, we operate in South Austin, near the St. Elmo neighborhood.
If you’re looking for a South Austin personal trainer with a real process, you’re in the right place. We use assessment-driven coaching and a joint-first training system so your program matches your body, not a template.
South Austin Personal Trainer: Redefining Movement
Most training starts with a workout. We start with how you move.
At Motive Training, every personal training program in South Austin is built from a detailed Functional Range Assessment (FRA). That assessment shows us how your joints move, where you compensate, and which positions you avoid or can’t control. From there, we apply Functional Range Conditioning (FRC) principles to build mobility, joint control, and strength you can use.
This approach matters if you deal with pain, stiffness, or the feeling that your body always finds the same limiting positions. It also matters if you’re already active and want to keep training hard without stacking up setbacks.
You’ll train with precision, clear progressions, and a coach who knows what to look for when something feels off. Not sure what to look for in a trainer? Read our guide on finding the right personal trainer in Austin.
South Austin Personal Trainers Who Care
For some, personal training is a side job. For us, it’s the work we’ve chosen to take seriously.
We coach for outcomes, but we also coach for trust. That means we listen, we measure, we reassess, and we adjust. It also means you won’t get random exercises or generic circuits disguised as personalization.
You’ll know why you’re doing what you’re doing, what it’s building, and how it connects to your goals.
Here, you’re not another appointment on a calendar. You’re a person with a body, a history, and a life that training needs to support. Meet the team.
CHANGING LIVES IS OUR MISSION
Over the past few years, Motive Training has worked with hundreds of people in South Austin who wanted more than quick motivation.
Some came in with persistent aches. Some were frustrated with how training felt in their body. Some wanted to get strong again and stay consistent for the first time in a long time.
Our mission goes past workouts. We help you understand your movement, build confidence in your joints, and train in a way that carries over into real life.
We take your progress seriously, and we build the process around your needs, not our ego.
Plus, you can see the work, and we’d love to add you to that list.
Our Philosophy
This Is The Motive Training Way.
Move With Purpose
Every rep, every session, every choice—made with clear intention. Effort without direction is just fatigue.
Read credoDo More With Less
Precision beats volume every time. Less done right builds more than more done wrong.
Read credoNo Pain = More Gain
Pain is information, not a trophy. Train smarter and the results follow. Train harder and the injuries do too.
Read credoFight Pain.
A lot of people train around discomfort for years. They avoid positions, brace through workouts, and hope it resolves on its own. That usually turns into more compensation and less confidence.
At Motive Training, we address the root issue by improving joint function and control. We use assessment data to choose the right inputs, then progress them over time so your body owns the positions it used to protect.
Pain is complex and individual, and we don’t promise miracle fixes. What we do promise is a structured approach that respects your body and gives you a clear plan.
The goal is simple. Train in a way that makes you feel better, not worse.
Gain Strength.
Strength is not just a number on a bar. It’s the ability to create force in positions your life and sport actually demand.
A lot of programs focus on the big lifts without addressing the reasons they feel limited for many people. Tight hips. Shoulders that never move well overhead. Ankles that can’t control depth. A spine that always finds the same strategy.
We build strength differently. We earn positions, strengthen end ranges, and integrate those gains into full-body patterns. That creates durability, better technique, and a body that can handle more training without breaking down.
Move With Purpose
At Motive Training, every session has intent.
That means your program is built from your assessment, your goals, and your current capacity. We progress what matters, remove what doesn’t, and keep the plan focused.
Some clients come to get out of pain. Others want to get stronger, improve performance, or finally feel consistent. The outcome looks different, but the process stays the same.
Assess. Build capacity. Train strength. Reassess. Repeat.
This isn’t random personal training. It’s a system that adapts to you.

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Where are you located in South Austin?
We're located in South Austin near the St. Elmo District. Once you reach out, we'll send the exact address, parking notes, and what to expect on your first visit.
If you're looking for a South Austin personal trainer who takes joint health, mobility, and long-term progress seriously, you're in the right place.
How do I get started?
Fill out the form below and we'll reach out to learn your goals and help you book your first assessment at our South Austin studio.
We'll follow up in whatever way is easiest for you—text, email, or phone. This isn't a sales call. It's a quick conversation to get clear on your training history, current limitations, and what you want to change.
From there, we start with an assessment so we're not guessing. Most clients begin with a 90-minute Motive Movement & Mobility Assessment ($149). If joint pain, injuries, or major mobility limitations are a primary concern, we may recommend a Functional Range Assessment® for a deeper joint-by-joint evaluation.
These are focused, hands-on sessions where we look at how your joints move, how well you control those ranges, and where limitations are affecting your training. You'll also move—you'll experience how we coach, not just talk about it.
You leave with clarity: what's limiting you, what we're prioritizing, and what the next phase of training should look like. No guessing. No generic plan.
How much does it cost?
Most coaching memberships start at $460 per month. Pricing depends on how often you train, the structure of your sessions, and the level of support you need.
After your assessment, we recommend the simplest plan that matches your goals and your body—so you know exactly what you're doing and why you're doing it.
Every plan includes expert coaching, assessment-based programming, and mobility + strength work designed to build resilience, improve usable range of motion, and help you train with confidence for the long haul.
This isn't generic. It's built around you.
What should I expect during my first few weeks of training?
Your first few weeks are about turning assessment findings into real progress—immediately.
Early sessions focus on quality: positions, ranges of motion, and strength that match your current structure. You'll learn what to prioritize, what to stop forcing, and how to train in a way that actually carries over to the rest of your life.
Most clients train with us at least twice per week. Alongside your sessions, we'll guide what to do between visits (mobility work, targeted practice, and progressions) so the process doesn't feel fragmented.
The goal early on is momentum and confidence: less confusion, more clarity, and a training plan you can actually trust.
What makes Motive different from other gyms?
Most gyms focus on doing more—more reps, more sweat, more weight. We focus on doing things better.
We start with how your body actually moves. If your joints lack control or usable range of motion, pushing harder often leads to compensation, frustration, and pain. Instead of training around limitations, we address them so your training supports your body rather than working against it.
Every client trains with a plan built from real information, not assumptions. We assess how you move, identify what's limiting you, and coach with intent. Every phase has a purpose.
Our system blends Functional Range Conditioning and WeckMethod principles to improve joint health, movement control, and rotational strength—so you can build a body that holds up over time.
Who will be my trainer?
We don't tier our coaches by "levels." We believe in standards—and ours are high.
Every coach at Motive is certified in Functional Range Conditioning and trained in our assessment-based approach. No matter who you work with, you get expert coaching, consistent service, and a program built around how your body moves.
You won't be passed off to someone less qualified. Everyone on our team is equipped to help you move better, train smarter, and build progress that lasts.
What if I'm a beginner or have injuries or medical conditions?
You're in the right place. We work with people who are new to training, dealing with pain, or navigating past injuries and medical conditions.
Our job is to assess how your body moves and build a plan that fits your current reality—so you're never forced into movements that don't make sense for you.
If you're under the care of a medical provider, we're happy to work alongside them. We don't diagnose or treat medical conditions—we coach training and movement in a way that supports long-term progress.
Should I do the FRA® before I can start training?
It's not required for everyone—but if pain, injuries, or mobility restrictions are a major part of why you're here, it's often the best starting point.
The Functional Range Assessment® is a comprehensive, joint-by-joint evaluation that helps us see exactly where usable range of motion is missing—and where control breaks down. That information makes your plan more precise from day one.
We do cover key movement and mobility findings in your initial 90-minute assessment, but the full FRA® goes deeper when we need more detailed joint-level data.
How long does it take to see results?
It depends on where you're starting and what you're working toward, but most clients notice meaningful changes within the first 4–12 weeks when they're consistent.
Some people feel mobility improvements and less irritation early on. Others notice strength, confidence, and better training tolerance as their foundation gets stronger. Either way, the goal is durable progress—not quick fixes.
What's included outside of my in-person sessions?
We don't just coach you for the hour you're here. We support the full system around your training so progress continues between sessions.
Your membership may include:
- At-home mobility work tailored to your needs.
- Ongoing communication with your coach.
- Structured progress tracking.
- Education through Motive Mobility (joint-specific routines, mobility breakdowns, training insights).
The goal is consistency: inside the gym and outside it.
Do you offer group training?
Yes—our group training is built around KINSTRETCH, a coach-led class designed to improve joint control, mobility, and movement quality.
For training outside the gym, Motive Mobility provides ongoing mobility challenges and progressive routines you can do at home.
Even in a group setting, the standard stays high: structured coaching, clear intent, and progress you can measure.
Do you only work with clients in South Austin?
No. We're based in South Austin, but we work with clients from all over Austin—as long as you can train consistently at the studio.
If you're outside Austin, we also offer remote options through KINSTRETCH Online and Motive Mobility, plus individualized programming depending on what you need.
You don't need to live in South Austin to train with purpose—you just need the right plan.
Can I pause or cancel my membership?
Yes—life happens.
If you need to pause or cancel, just let us know. We'll walk you through the options clearly and work with you to keep your training aligned with your needs.
No weird pressure. No games. Just communication and transparency.
